Most durable gr?

I need to reseed my lawn - we laid down new sod last summer but it was so dry it all died and we now have a mud/dirt pit instead of a lovely green lawn. We have two dogs whose urine kills the gr so I need a type of gr that can withstand dog pee and extreme heat and drought in the summer (along with extreme cold and wet in the winter). Also, what would be the best time of the year to reseed? And should we try to keep the dogs out of the seed area and for how long? Thanks!!!
